All-rounder makes move to Cambridge for the 2023 season. Ben Claydon, has moved from Copdock Cricket Club to Sawston and Babraham Cricket Club.

Having played for Northamptonshire under-17s and Northampton second eleven, Sawston and Babraham first team captain, Dan Heath, has said “the club will massively benefit from him taking on the responsibility with junior coaching”. Having lacked a clear point of contact in the club to bridge the jump from junior cricket to senior cricket Heath said “Ben being a super coach and player is the perfect person to provide this.”

Claydon finished the 2022 season in good form with three scores over 30 not-out spanning across two games for Suffolk. His largest coming against Bedfordshire missing out on a half-century, at Flitwick Cricket Ground, by two runs on 21st August. The other two results, 34 and 30 not out against Staffordshire on August 14th. Dan Heath said, “his ability with the bat and ball will be crucial to the team”.

In a tweet, Copdock and Old Ipswichians Cricket Club waved goodbye to Claydon, saying "best of luck to Ben Claydon as he departs the club after 4 seasons for a new challenge in 2023. Many thanks to Ben for all his efforts both on and off the pitch at the club and wish him all the best in the future (just not against us!!)"

In the last five games for Suffolk Claydon has achieved one 5-wicket haul against Staffordshire on the 14th August at Checkley Cricket Ground. Overall, in the last five games Claydon has grabbed eight wickets for Suffolk. Heath said, “He has always performed well against us and is a huge part of the Suffolk CCC team.”

“Ben lives locally in Cambridge, he works or is friends with the majority of the squad and someone I have known for a very long time.”
