South African all-rounder Jordan Morris has joined Sudbury from Pretoria for the 2023 season. Currently playing for Tuskers Cricket Morris has experience playing at a high level with six matches in List-A cricket and five matches at first-class level.

Sudbury Cricket Club announced the signing on their Twitter on January 30th saying “we are excited to announce Jordan Morris as our overseas pro for the upcoming season… thanks to the Keith Martin Group and @GosfieldSchool for making this possible”.

Morris has scored 53 runs in 4 innings at List-A, averaging 13.25 and 141 runs at first-class level in 7 innings averaging 20.14. In his short career he has only hit one fifty but says he looks to make a difference on the pitch, “[I] try [and] be the player a captain always wants to turn to. Being an all-rounder allows me to make a difference in a game with bat or ball and hopefully, that will stand me in good stead going further in my career.”

Morris has aspirations to go on to play at higher levels in his career saying “my goal is obviously to play for my country but I do enjoy the shorter format of the game so wouldn’t mind playing some T-20 tournaments around the world.”

In his last two games at first-class level Morris has picked up three wickets and scored 34 runs, something he will be hoping to build on at Sudbury where he finds inspiration, Morris said “the pool of players that Sudbury have attracted such as, Dustin Melton who I looked up to at school, gave me assurance that I will be going to a good place.”

The 23-year-old is happy he is going to Sudbury and looks forward to the season ahead, he said: “[I am] really delighted to join Sudbury this season… obviously playing in the EAPL is also something I look forward to since I enjoy playing the game at a super competitive level and to match yourself against some really good players.”
